This 7 mile walk along the Jurassic Coast between Lyme Regis and Axmouth Harbour is part of the South West Coastal Path and passes through one of the most active landslip areas in Britain. On Christmas day 1839 several acres of land slipped towards the sea producing a massive chasm 1km long and 100m wide, reaching back to the cliffs seen in this photograph.
The area is now a nature reserve full of wild and remote woodland and is also the largest self-sown ash woodland in the UK. Scenes for the film 'The French Lieutennant's Woman' were also filmed in these woods.
